The Greenwood, Indiana Lighting Resources facility began operating a brand new mercury retort oven. Ron Hughes, facility manager states, "This oven will increase our capacity to recycle mercury from phosphorous powder removed from lamps. The mercury is baked out of the phosphorous powder at temperatures of over 700 degrees. This oven allows us to return the mercury back into the mercury market for reuse. Because of our superior technology we actually recycle phosphorous powder for several other lamp recycling companies." Mr. Hughes added, "We actually resell the phosphorous powder because it contains rare earth elements required for the manufacturing of electronic components."
